Here at St. Cecilia parish we have a tradition, going back many years, of adoring the Blessed Sacrament on Wednesdays. At the close of the 8:30 am mass the priest exposes Blessed Sacrament on the main altar in the gold monstrance. Then during the course of the day people come to pray, at their convenience. (We disinfect periodically during the day!) We have a sign up list, so that someone at least is always present during the course of the day.
Finally, at 7 pm we gather to pray Vespers and Benediction. The organist accompanies us. There is a handout of the Vespers for your convenience. We conclude with honoring Saint Therese of Lisieux, known as the Little Flower. Her “Little Way” is quite simple for us in following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
You are invited to join us.
The Catholic Church believes in maintaining the Eucharistic presence of the Lord – in our tabernacles. Then in addition sometimes we put the host, the Eucharistic presence of Jesus Christ, into the monstrance, a dignified, appropriate gold “container,” to be adored by the people. We Catholics adore only God; we do not adore any saints, etc.
By venerating, adoring, the Eucharistic presence, we try “to have a conversation with Jesus.” Many canonized saints have spoken of prayer as
“a conversation with Jesus.” That means, whatever we may be feeling: our joy, our sorrow, our frustration, our confusion, whatever, that is naturally going to be our prayer.
